Artist Statement

My artwork challenges the existing ideologies surrounding identity and memory. I work to reflect the interplay between of personal identification and beloved memories through my use of text, abstraction, symbolism, and portraiture.

My practice is process oriented. Each piece begins with joyful play to create the abstracted first layers. From there I refine the layers to create my compositions. As the work develops, I bring in a combination of text, abstraction, symbolism, and portraiture. It is my belief that the abstraction allows a glimpse of emotional depth of my lived experience and the portraiture humanizes and connects my lived experience with the audience. The combination highlights the interplay between personal identification and beloved memories.
